Rising Star Spotlight: Zak Jennings' Journey from Hire Karts to National Racing Success

13 May 2025

In the competitive world of youth motorsport, finding drivers who embody both exceptional talent and the true spirit of racing can be rare. Today, we're shining our spotlight on Zak Jennings, a remarkable young driver whose karting journey showcases what dedication, family support, and passion for the sport can achieve in just over two years.

From Corporate Karts to National Competitions

Zak's racing story began just over two years ago at Bayford Meadows in Kent, where he first experienced the thrill of arrive-and-drive corporate karts. What started as casual drives quickly evolved into a serious passion as he transitioned to Honda 160 Cadet owner-karting.

"What I love most about karting is the quality time it allows me to spend with my family," Zak shares. "Karting is a team effort for us, and we tackle every race meeting together, guided by our motto: 'Race for fun, and if we win, that's a bonus.'"

This family-first approach hasn't stopped Zak from achieving impressive results. By late 2023, he had progressed to the Honda R200 category, securing a first-place finish at Hunts Kart Club, Kimbolton in December 2023.

Adapting to New Challenges

Zak's ability to adapt quickly to new racing categories sets him apart from many young drivers. Initially aiming to compete in the Ultimate Karting Series in the R200 class, he pivoted to Rotax Mini Inter when entries in his planned category were limited.

This transition showcased his versatility and determination. Despite the challenge of adapting to a new class, Zak completed the entire UKC series, traveling across the UK to compete against some of the country's top young talents. His efforts earned him 14th overall in the series seeding – an impressive achievement for a driver who had switched categories.

2024: A Year of Breakthrough Performances

This year has been particularly successful for Zak, with multiple podium finishes and special recognitions:

  • Winner of the Daniel Ricciardo Series DRS35 Round 1 at Shenington
  • 1st Place at Red Lodge Karting 2024 Club 2000 in Inter Max
  • 2nd Place in MVKC (Buckmore Park) Summer Series 2024 Round 3
  • 3rd Place in MVKC Summer Series 2024 Round 6
  • "Driver of the Day" at MVKC Summer Series Round 4
  • 3rd Place in IPKC Independants Cup 2024 in R200
  • Holder of the prestigious Red Lodge "O" Plate in Inter Max
  • Bayford Meadows "BM" Plate Holder in R200

Perhaps most impressive is Zak's versatility across different circuits. From Buckmore Park to Shenington, Red Lodge to Bayford Meadows, he has demonstrated the ability to quickly learn and master various track layouts – a skill that will serve him well as he progresses in his racing career.

Beyond Personal Achievement: Giving Back Through Zenico Racing

What truly makes Zak's story special extends beyond his personal achievements. Together with his family, he helps run Zenico Racing, a platform supporting young karters just starting in the sport.

"Through Zenico Racing, we aim to promote the family-friendly ethos of karting while inspiring and guiding the next generation of drivers," Zak explains.

This commitment to giving back to the sport demonstrates maturity beyond his years and aligns perfectly with the values we champion at Banana Sponsorship – creating opportunities for young talent and fostering a supportive motorsport community.

Looking Ahead: Junior Rotax and Beyond

As Zak ages out of the Inter Class, he's already preparing for new challenges. For 2025, he has entered the Junior Karting Championship (JKC) and is currently training in the Junior Rotax class.

His long-term ambition? Progressing into car racing by the age of 15 – a goal that seems increasingly achievable given his rapid development and impressive results to date.

The Importance of Sponsorship in Young Driver Development

Like many talented young racers, Zak is seeking sponsorship to help continue his growth in the sport. The costs associated with competitive karting – from entry fees to equipment, travel expenses to training – can be substantial.

Sponsorship plays a crucial role in allowing drivers like Zak to focus on developing their skills rather than worrying about financial constraints. It also enables them to compete at higher levels, gaining valuable experience against top competition.

For businesses looking to support emerging motorsport talent, drivers like Zak offer an authentic connection to grassroots racing and the opportunity to be part of a potentially remarkable journey from karting to professional motorsport.
